Dr. Qi Xie received his doctoral degree in Neurobiology at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012. At the beginning of 2013, he joined Dr. Jeremy Rich’s lab at the Cleveland Clinic as a postdoctoral researcher. In August 2017, he moved to the University of California San Diego (UCSD) with Dr. Rich and was promoted as an Assistant Project Scientist. Dr. Qi Xie joined the West Lake University School of Life Sciences full-time in September 2019 as an assistant professor (independent PI), and continued to work on targeted therapies for cancer stem cells and brain tumors.
Cancer stem cell is a sub-population of cancer cells defined by sustained self-renewal, persistent proliferation, and tumor initiation capacity. Cancer stem cells play an essential role in tumor metastasis, recurrence, angiogenesis, chemotherapy and radiotherapy resistance, and immune evasion. Therefore, therapeutic strategies targeting cancer stem cells will bring new hope to the treatment of cancer.
Dr. Qi Xie’s research focuses on the epigenetic, transcriptional, post-translational, and metabolic regulation of cancer stem cells and their crosstalk with tumor microenvironment. He has published more than 20 papers including first author papers published in the top Journals such as Cell, Cancer Discovery, Immunity, Nature Neuroscience, Cell Research and Journal of Clinical Investigation. He has also been invited to write review and preview articles in Cell Stem Cell. He is currently a member of the American Cancer Society (AACR Member, since 2016), and is an independent reviewer for several journals including Clinical Cancer Research, Neuro-Oncology, and Cancer Letter.
